Josh Minott is earning a long-term roster spot with the Boston Celtics

When the Boston Celtics acquired Josh Minot during the offseason, it was clear they were betting on his upside. The athletic forward struggled to earn playing time during his tenure with the Minnesota Timberwolves; However, given the Celtics’ status as a retooling team, Minot is projected to get a legitimate opportunity to prove himself at the NBA level.

The former second-round draft pick has taken the field for Joe Mazzulla’s team. His size, length and athleticism have been major contributors to Boston’s rotation, while his ability to play solid defense and put pressure on the passing line fits perfectly into the identity the Celtics are trying to build. Minot has played in 17 games so far, averaging 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 51.1% from the field and 41.7% from deep.

While speaking to the media on November 6, Mazzulla was asked about Minot’s strong start and whether his production was sustainable. In the weeks since, Minot has answered that question with consistently solid play. Still, it’s interesting to go back and hear what Mazzulla had to say in that moment.
