Jonathan Scott Reveals Whether He and Zooey Deschanel Would Have a Christmas Wedding (Exclusive)

Jonathan Scott is speaking out about the possibility of a festive season for his and Zooey Deschanel’s wedding.

celebrity iou The host, 47, and his fiancée of almost two and a half years, are both well-documented holiday fanatics who go all out for Christmas at their L.A. family home every year, but when it comes to their big day, tinsel and holly aren’t part of the plan. Scott said a holiday-themed celebration is “absolutely not” in the cards for one important reason.

“No, I think for us there’s something magical about the holidays and Christmas when it happens,” says Jonathan, during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE with brother Drew for their new Wood Laminate Hub partnership.

He noted that he has nothing against a holiday-themed wedding, and recalled his older brother J.D. Scott’s “epic” Halloween wedding, which he attended with Deschanel in October 2019, shortly after they started dating.

As far as he and Deschanel’s big day is concerned, Jonathan says, “There are a lot of things we want to do.”

“I think we want to have a warm marriage and haven’t figured out yet where it will be,” she told People, adding, “We haven’t really made any plans yet. We’re busy with all the kids stuff, and so we’re really just the driver for the kids’ social life.”

Despite there not being a Christmas-themed wedding in his and Deschanel’s future, Jonathan has previously told People how their annual Christmas celebrations feel like a “warm-up” for their big day.

“We’re going to go on vacation and then we’re going to have probably the best party to plan,” he said in the fall of 2023.

Later in August 2025, the HGTV star explained to People why they haven’t made any plans for their wedding yet, two years after they popped the question during their trip to Scotland in August 2023.

“We’re having a lot of fun traveling with the kids and filming this show and other things,” Jonathan said. “So no, we haven’t really made any plans yet, even though it’s been two years since I proposed.”

“Everything we do has to be meaningful to us and we want to gather our friends and family and have a good time,” he said, adding, “We want to keep it very, very intimate.”
