CARY, NC (WTVD) — The Wake County Board of Education has a new member. Jennifer Jobe was officially sworn in Tuesday night to fill the District 8 seat of Lindsay Mahaffey, who resigned in August to spend more time with her family.
Job, who has a doctorate in education, will serve on the board until at least 2028.
Job has spent most of his career in education, including working as a teacher education professor at Oklahoma State University and teaching in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro district.
She said some of her early priorities on the board will include strengthening special education services, closing the achievement gap, and developing an AI framework to help students and teachers adapt to new technology.
Job said his daughter is one of his biggest inspirations for service.
“Hannah goes to an elementary school in Wake County, and so it’s more important to me than ever that kids are well represented, teachers are well represented, and that we, you know, we’re doing our best,” she said.
Job attended his first meeting soon after the ceremony.
