James Cameron Avatar 3 interview 1

Long before he created floating mountains and giant blue people, James Cameron created a world that has since become a reality. with Terminator And its sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Cameron envisioned a world where artificial intelligence became so powerful that it fought against humanity. Now, more than 40 years later, that vision has become completely possible, and that’s certainly not what stopped the director from saying definitively, “I’ll be back.”

Last year, James Cameron mentioned that he was working on something Terminator franchise but it was “completely classified”.

He joked, “If you want to talk about it, I don’t want to send in a potentially dangerous robotic agent, even in retrospect.” Well, this week, io9 talked to Cameron about his new film, Avatar: Fire and Ashes, And asked if he could provide any updates. Which he did.

Cameron said, “I’ll have some time to write and think about my next projects and the order in which I’ll do them once we finish marketing on this in a month or two.” “I have such a big stack of notes [holds fingers about three inches apart]That’s how I start all my scripts, on what new thing I want to do. Terminator film. I’m going to involve myself as a writer.

“It’s hard. I have to tell you,” he added. “Science fiction has taken hold and is really taking over us at this point. We’re living in a science fiction world, and we’re literally having to deal with problems that in the past only existed in science fiction books and movies. Now we’re living it in reality. I’ll never be as prescient in imagining it as I was in 1984 because I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to happen a year or two from now. But I want to at least prove myself in the future by staying out for a few years.”

Once Avatar: Fire and Ashes After being out on the planet, Cameron has a few other projects he’s considering. A film about atomic bombs during World War II is one of them. Adaptation of a book named the devil The second one is. and he has two more Avatar Sequels are also coming. So whether or not he can find that hook to “future-proof” himself by creating new TerminatorWe will have to see. But he’s definitely still thinking about it. And a future version of myself probably knows whether it happened or not.

Avatar: Fire and Ashes Opens on December 19th, and we’ll have a lot more from Cameron and more soon.
