However, their confrontation seemed like the perfect example of the NFL’s anything-is-possible mantra. As the Rams held a slim 21-17 lead, it seemed like the ball could go either way in the first half. But the Panthers had some reason to remain optimistic after their superstar rookie, Tetaroa McMillan, failed to score going into the encounter.
What happened to Tetaroa McMillan?
Despite Young’s passing game struggles, his first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft felt like a surefire winner during the first two-thirds of the season. With nearly 800 receiving yards and five touchdowns, he made an immediate impact at Carolina.
But the first half against Los Angeles wasn’t one McMillan will probably remember. A pick-six in the period increased his total to 17 points, but the rookie sensation had no major contributions on the day.
Since the passing attack averaged less than 100 yards, McMillan was only targeted once in the entire game. He was not able to make a catch, ending the half with a stat line that read zero receptions and zero yards.

Coming in at 34th in PFSN’s WR Impact, he has been a valuable contributor all year for the Panthers, helping them to a 6-6 record, keeping them contending for the top spot in the division.

With an opportunistic defense and a great duo of Rico Dowdle and Chubba Hubbard on the field, McMillan is able to provide a threat through the air to keep the defense honest, even if Young fails to impress with his production.
The Panthers led 24–21 after the first three quarters and Young played brilliantly even without McMillan’s help.
