In a more interview with Mashable entertainment reporter Belen Edwards, in your dreams Director Alex Wu revealed that he took inspiration from Baloney Tony since his childhood.
“My aunt bought [my brother and I] Both of these teddy bears were related to Santa, hence they are called Santa Bears. My brother, one day his nose was bleeding, and he got some blood stains on his Santa bear near his tail, and so we started calling him ‘Butthole Bear,'” Wu recalled. ”Apparently, it was his stuffed animal, and so he liked it very much, despite how disgusting it was. That was the inspiration for Baloney Tony, the idea that our stuffed animals, even though they may be gross and disgusting, are still ours. There’s something about our relationship with them that, despite the smell of rancid meat, they bring us warmth and familiarity and they make us feel like we’re at home.”
From there, Wu taught us how to actually draw Baloney Tony, explaining his design was inspired by cheap stuffed animals you might find at state fairs or arcade claw machines. You can draw together with the above Wu to master the art of Baloney Tony.
