
Dan Simmons, author of more than three dozen books, including the famous Hyperion CantosDied of stroke. He was 77 years old.
Simmons, who worked in elementary education before becoming a writer in the 1980s, has amassed an extensive portfolio of writing, spanning a range of genres, including horror fiction, historical fiction, and science fiction. His books often included elements of all of these. This obituary will focus on what is generally considered his greatest work, and I believe possibly the greatest science fiction novel of all time, hyperion.
