A man accused of stabbing 10 people on a train has failed to appear in court after refusing to join a video link from prison.
On 1 November, passengers were seriously injured on a train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross after stopping at Peterborough.
Anthony Williams, 32, of Langford Road, Peterborough, has been charged with 13 counts of attempted murder, which also relate to other alleged attacks.
A brief hearing at Cambridge Crown Court was adjourned and proceedings are due to resume on January 28.
After multiple 999 calls from the train the 18:25 service was diverted and stopped at Huntingdon – where Mr Williams was eventually arrested.
Mr Williams, who was represented in court by barrister Graham Arnold, is charged with 21 offences.
Huntingdon’s allegations:
- An attempt was made to murder ten people traveling in the train
- having a bladed object
- Actual bodily harm in relation to an alleged assault of a police officer while in custody
other charge:
- Charges of attempted murder and possession of an edged weapon were registered after a man was hit in the face at Pontoon Dock DLR station in Silvertown, east London, in the early hours of 1 November.
- The attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy in Henry Penn Walk in Peterborough on 31 October
- An attempted murder of a 22-year-old man at the Rail World car park in Peterborough on 31 October
- On 31 October an attempt was made to injure a 28-year-old man in Henry Penn Walk in Peterborough.
- Possession of a bladed instrument in a public place in Henry Penn Walk
- A fight in relation to an alleged incident at Ritzy Barbers in Peterborough on 31 October
- Theft of a knife from an Asda supermarket in Stevenage on 31 October.
- Common assault on a 31-year-old man traveling between Hitchin in Hertfordshire and Biggleswade in Bedfordshire on 1 November
Eleven people received treatment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge following the incident on 1 November. All of them have since been discharged.
Earlier, the court was told Mr Williams had refused to be moved to a video-link cell from prison.
Judge Mark Bishop set a provisional hearing for June 22.
