Despite many of the original X-Men stars returning to Marvel in the upcoming MCU film Avengers: Doomsday, one name is missing, and that’s Hugh Jackman. However, that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the star as Wolverine, as Jackman has vowed not to rule out reuniting the show again.

While appearing on The Graham Norton Show, host Norton asked Jackman about his return to Marvel in 2024’s smash hit Deadpool and The Wolverine, saying, “Every time you’re at work, you say, ‘No, I’m not doing that again,’ but then you keep making another one. And it’s a big, big hit. So do you have to do it again?” Jackman glanced mischievously at the audience and replied, “Maybe.”

Jackman added, “I will never say ‘never’ again.” “When I said ‘never’, that’s what I meant, until the day I changed my mind. But I actually kept saying it for a few years, that’s what I meant.” It seemed as if Jackman had stopped working with Marvel after the 2017 film Logan, where his inactive character actually died. However, no Marvel hero has ever actually died, as in Deadpool 3, Jackman played another version of Wolverine from a different timeline.

Speaking of bringing the characters back, Norton explained that if Jackman isn’t willing to get back into Wolverine shape, the studio could always CGI his face onto another actor’s body. Jackman responded, “100%. I think I’ve done 10 movies.”

“I think they’ve got quite a few things there,” he then quipped, “In fact, I’ve done your show five or six times, I could be in the dressing room (right now).”

Jackman is one of Marvel’s longest-serving stars, having first appeared as the clawed mutant in Fox’s X-Men in 2000. In terms of the wider cinematic universe, Jackman made his MCU debut just last year, but he is not currently set to star in any upcoming Marvel projects. Avengers: Doomsday is now in post-production, so if Jackman were to make a cameo, he would have to shoot it already, unless possible reshoots for the hero are on the cards. However, we can still hope for Wolverine’s return for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026 as part of Marvel Phase 6. For more information, stay tuned to upcoming Marvel movies and shows, and upcoming superhero movies.
