Open earbuds are having a moment — just look at the multiple announcements from JBL, Anker Soundcore, and others at CES 2026. But despite all the new babies, we still hold a special place in our hearts for the Bose Ultra Open earbuds. They’ve earned the top spot on our list of best open earbuds for a reason. If you’re still on the fence about spending the money on a pair, Bose is giving away refurbished pairs for free. Let’s dive in.

Through January 8, you can get a free pair of Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (refurbished) when you purchase Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2 Earbuds (Mashable’s favorite noise-canceling earbuds) at Bose.com. The second-generation QuietComfort Ultra earbuds are priced at $299, while the refurbished Ultra Open earbuds are priced at $249. This means you get two pairs of earbuds worth a total of $548 for just $299.

To grab the deal, simply add a pair of QuietComfort Ultra (2nd generation) earbuds to your cart on the Bose website. Once they’re in your cart, you’ll have the option to choose a pair of free Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (Refurbished) in black, white smoke, or lunar blue. And that’s it, friends – easy peasy.

The QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Generation) are a worthy investment for those who value noise cancellation above all else. “With spatial audio and some of the best ANC we’ve seen, these earbuds deliver a sound that immerses you in your music,” Mashable’s shopping reporter Bethany Allard writes in her review.

While the Ultra Open Earbuds obviously won’t compare to the QuietComfort Ultras in terms of noise blocking, they are some of the best-sounding open-ear headphones on the market. Mashable’s reviewer writes, “Although we were skeptical at first, these buds are extremely comfortable and get top marks for battery life, spatial audio, and sound quality.”

If you’re someone with noise-canceling headphones who wants to test the waters of open earbuds, this is a premium opportunity. Just make sure to seal the deal by January 8th (or before).
