How music changed my life, by Tems

However, he said, making music has taught him to be more open and receptive to love.

Thames said, “Being an artist has changed my life. There are so many people who know me. It’s made me grow, I’ve had to give up a lot of habits that were holding me back—one of the things was my hyper-independence and that thing I do where I push people away.”

She added, “I’ve learned now to embrace love, to just be open, and to be free to give love and be vulnerable without feeling awkward.”

Thames began his music career in 2018 with his debut single ‘Mr. Rebel’, but his breakthrough came with Wizkid’s 2020 hit ‘Essence’.

She has since collaborated with global icons such as Drake, Beyoncé and Justin Bieber, won two Grammys and became the first Nigerian artist to surpass 40 million monthly streams on Spotify.
