How does Pitt stack up with Texas A&M?

The Texas A&M Aggies are arguably one of the most confusing teams in the country at this stage of the season. They were generally picked around the 10-12 range in the SEC preseason, but the league has been the strongest conference for the past few years. The Aggies went 23–11 last season and have appeared in three consecutive NCAA tournaments. Now, this is a completely different look of the program after Buzz Williams left for Maryland, but they come into tonight’s game against Pitt with a 6-2 record.

Buzz did what Buzz does in Aggie Land: win and then quickly move on to the next thing. Williams went 120–73 in six seasons there, appearing in three NCAA Tournaments. The first two seasons were a little rough, but then over the last four seasons they averaged 24 wins. It’s known as a football school, but the basketball program has shown some real signs of life recently. Bucky McMillan has now taken over the program and is trying to keep the momentum going. The 42-year-old comes from Samford, where he enjoyed great success by recording four consecutive 20+ win seasons.

Texas A&M has been all over the map through eight games. Six wins over Northwestern State, Texas Southern, Montana, Manhattan, Mississippi Valley State and Florida State aren’t exactly impressive. A win over the Seminoles on Friday certainly matters. A&M defeated the Seminoles by 36 points in a neutral site game in Tampa. This may have been a tough season for Florida State, but the result still speaks volumes that they handled the ACC team with such ease.
