‘He’s a world-class player’ – Garcia not surprised by Lookman’s form at Atletico Madrid

Former Spanish forward, Raul Garcia has praised the impressive debut made by Ademola Lookman at Atletico Madrid, describing the Nigerian forward as a “world-class player” following his strong performances since arriving in January.

Lookman joined the Rojiblancos from Atalanta during the winter transfer window and quickly established himself as a key figure in Diego Simeone’s team.

The Nigeria international has scored four goals and provided four assists in 13 appearances in all competitions, helping Atlético maintain momentum in both the domestic and European campaigns.

His performances have been widely praised and Garcia admitted he is not surprised by how quickly the 28-year-old has adapted to life in Spain.

Speaking ahead of Atletico’s highly anticipated derby clash with city rivals Real Madrid on Sunday, the retired Spain international highlighted Lookman’s immediate impact.

“He is performing brilliantly. It is not easy to get a place in the team like him. I think he is a world-class player,” he said via Europa Press. “I’m not surprised by what he’s doing.”

Lookman also impressed as Atletico Madrid secured an aggregate victory over Tottenham Hotspur to book their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian international, who has become an influential figure for the Rojiblancos since his arrival, registered an assist for the opening goal scored by Julian Alvarez in the encounter.

The 28-year-old will be keen to continue his impressive form as Atletico Madrid look to pick up another vital win and strengthen their lead in the title race.
