Foxborough, Mass. – If it were as easy as Mike Vrabel is making it seem, owners around the NFL would be firing and hiring new head coaches with more regularity than they currently do by firing one guy and welcoming another.
The point is, if candidates with Vrabel’s resume and cachet were available more frequently, there would be fewer opportunities and this exhausting cycle would not be set into motion with such alarming regularity.
If there had been a Vrabel there this time, it would have been easier for the Giants to identify him, make him a priority, interview him, make him an offer and pay him the money to reenergize their entire football operation. It was easy for the Patriots to hire Mike Vrabel. Finding the next Mike Vrabel figure for the Giants is extremely difficult.
General manager Joe Schoen has been tasked with the same task after co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch fired Brian Daboll for 10 games this season, in which the Giants won only two of those 10 games. Schoen will be at Gillette Stadium on Monday night to see what all the fuss is about with the New England franchise, which is 10-2, a favorite to win its 10th consecutive game and the Giants (2-10) suffering their seventh straight loss.
