what do we know:

Forecasters say the coming storm will reach Philadelphia around 5 a.m., bringing snow patches primarily north and west of the city.

The rain-snow line will flow over Philadelphia and locations along the I-95 corridor by the afternoon, before the precipitation becomes more widespread.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm advisory from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. for parts of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, Northampton and Lehigh counties.

How much snowfall will there be?

Local Perspective:

Philadelphia and surrounding areas will mostly stay clear of snow, but a wintry mix will be possible throughout the morning.

At present it seems that the storm will leave the area between 3 pm and 6 pm

Locations north and west of the city will see smaller accumulations, including Reading and Lancaster, where forecasters expect more than 2 inches.

Areas near Philadelphia, such as Chester and Bucks counties, may also get a dusting of snow from Tuesday’s storm.

Forecasters expect the rain-snow line to wrap around Philadelphia and keep the snow mostly away from the city.

Precipitation will dominate Tuesday in Philadelphia and South Jersey, with heavy showers at times in the afternoon.

Rain will become more widespread as the day progresses as temperatures cross 40 at most places.

What will happen next:

After Tuesday’s storm, the seasonal weather pattern will change, with three consecutive days of sunshine and temperatures around 40.

Conditions will turn even chillier on Friday with maximum temperatures barely above freezing.
