Hawks star Trae Young out two more weeks with right knee injury

Trae Young is expected to miss at least two more weeks.

Atlanta (AP) – Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is expected to miss at least two more weeks as he recovers from a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

The Hawks said Saturday that Young, the reigning NBA assists champion, continues to make good progress after missing a month after suffering an injury in a 117-112 win at Brooklyn on Oct. 29. The team said Young would be reevaluated in two weeks.

At the time of the injury, the Hawks said that an MRI showed that Young survived an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Young has already missed 15 games. If his rehabilitation continues two more weeks, he will miss at least seven additional games. This would make Young ineligible for season-ending awards such as All-NBA as league rules require players to appear in 65 games to be considered on ballots.

The Hawks improved to 12-8 with a 130-123 home win over Cleveland on Friday night. They are 10-5 since Young’s injury.

Young is a four-time All-Star and won the league’s assistant title for the first time last season.
