MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA – The 48-year-old unhappy customer accused of threatening a barber at gunpoint in Miami-Dade County is a convicted felon, and deputies described him as a “known violent offender,” records show.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office have identified the gunman who made threats despite the presence of children at Perrin’s Square Bizz on Nov. 25 as Darius Davis, records show.
“The defendant was in custody as of today on unrelated charges,” an M-DSO deputy wrote on November 29, according to an arrest report claiming to work for “Transit.”
Deputies arrested Davis after a traffic stop. Inmate records corrections show Davis was booked on Nov. 28 on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and he remained in the MetroWest Detention Center as of Monday morning.
Square Biz owner Samuel Wilson shared surveillance video of the attack on November 25. According to the arrest report, he told deputies Davis had been a customer for about a year.
“He wasn’t the man he was when he had the gun,” Wilson told Local 10 News. “He slapped my head, choked me.”
Court records show Davis’ convictions include cocaine possession charges in 1993, armed robbery charges in 1993 and 1998, and theft with assault in 1998.
Florida Department of Corrections records show he was in prison from March 1999 to October 2004; And from November 2006 to September 2017.
Court records show prosecutors filed a new case on the weapons possession charge on Nov. 29 and a case on the Nov. 25 attack on Nov. 30. Davis appeared in bond court on November 29 and November 30.
A judge ordered Davis to stay away from the victim and Square Biz and to house arrest if released on bond, records show.
Davis faces four charges in the November 25 attack: aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and improper display of a weapon.
Bond court judges allowed Davis to be released on his own recognizance on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and improper display of a weapon. His bond for the other charges was $35,000.
Inmate records show Davis posted bond by Monday afternoon. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Zachary James was set to preside over the two new cases.
