Polymarket bets began appearing in Google News alongside legitimate news articles. But now those results are no longer visible, and Google says this should never have happened. Spokesman Ned Adrians said The Verge That “Google News is designed to showcase sources that create content about current issues, events, and important topics, and we have policies in place to ensure sites are eligible to appear. This site appeared in Google News by mistake, and is no longer visible in News.”
These links led directly to betting markets linked to specific news events. For example, before the results are deleted, futurism Searched “Will ships pass the strait,” (Strait of Hormuz), and right down to reliable sources like Guardian And reuters There was a polymarket bet on the specific number of ships that would be allowed to pass.
Initially, there was speculation that Google might be testing Polymarket results as part of integration with the service. Polymarket and Kalshi are aggressively partnering with journalists and news outlets, even less reputable ones. It’s unclear how Polymarket ended up in Google News results, or when exactly it got its start. However, reports had surfaced on social media as early as January.
Google has already partnered with both Kalshi and Polymarket to bring their data into Google Finance. Whether that deal and the results in Google News are related in any way is unclear. We have contacted Google for additional information.
