Google has announced a trio of new AI-powered shopping features. The tech company is introducing more conversational search capabilities for shopping in AI mode, so shoppers can ask more specific and descriptive questions to find what they’re really looking for. AI mode results will also be formatted to match the type of search, providing shoppable images for signs with a greater viewing angle or side-by-side comparisons of different traits for buyers considering multiple options of what to buy.
It also has two new agentic shopping features. The first is an agentic checkout to find and buy an item at a particular price. Shoppers can use Google’s price-tracking feature to set the selling price they want to pay for a particular product, and can choose to allow Google’s AI to purchase the item when the desired discount is found. Agent Checkout through Google Pay requires users to verify purchase and shipping information before a purchase can be completed. For now, Agentic Checkout is limited to US shoppers at select online retailers, including Wayfair, Chewy, Quince, and some Shopify stores; Google said it plans to support more vendors in the future. (Presumably Amazon won’t be one of them.)
Finally, once you know what you want to buy, Gemini can call local businesses to ask about product availability. Agentic AI can gather information about prices, stock and current promotions, ask relevant follow-up questions, then email the results to the user. The first wave of categories to support AI phone calling are toys, health & beauty, and electronics, and will be available to US Search users.
With new resources like virtual clothing try-ons and shoe shopping, Google is rapidly expanding its shopping tools to include AI integration.
