Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has opted out of next month’s Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Abu Dhabi, ending his 13-season stint in the lucrative Twenty20 cricket competition.

Maxwell, who has been playing in the IPL since 2012, said the league helped shape him as a cricketer.
“This is a big decision and I’m so grateful for everything this league has given me,” the 37-year-old player wrote in a statement on Instagram.
“The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and a person. I have been fortunate to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched.
“The memories, challenges and energy of India will always remain with me.”
Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell also ruled themselves out of IPL 2026 last week, with the former South Africa captain opting to play in the Pakistan Super League and the former West Indies all-rounder joining the coaching department of IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.
