The New York Islanders look for their fourth straight win when they take on the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday night.

The Islanders are coming off a 3-2 shootout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, extending their home winning streak to five games. Emile Heinemann buried the game-deciding goal in the shootout after Anthony Duclair scored two early goals in regulation, Matthew Schaefer (ppg) and Callum Ritchie gave the Isles two points. Ilya Sorokin denied 32 of the Lightning’s 34 shots.

The Islanders have won six of their last seven games, including five against the current division leaders. The Islanders (41 points) are in second place in the Eastern Conference.

morning skate update

Mathew Barzal took a maintenance day Tuesday morning in Detroit, but is expected to warm up against the Red Wings. Barzal has 25 points (9G, 16A) in 32 games this season and is currently riding a four-game point streak (1G, 3A).

Head coach Patrick Roy said, “I’m still positive that Barzee will play.”

With Barzal likely to miss Tuesday night, the plan will be to bring Max Tsyplakov back into the lineup as a healthy scratch after missing the last three games and put Jonathan Drouin under center with Tsyplakov and Emil Heinemann. Cal Ritchie also skated in place of Barzal on the power play.

Ilya Sorokin is expected to start against the Red Wings.
