Fubo accuses NBCUniversal of ‘egregious’ demands amid carriage dispute

Fubo has released a statement on its latest dispute with NBCUniversal over a carriage dispute involving NBC’s most popular channels. Last Friday, NBCU Networks shut down both its live and on-demand services on fubo. Fubo customers trying to watch NBC content received a message that read, “We are working hard to bring this channel back. We are currently in talks with NBCUniversal and hope to bring this channel back to you soon.”

Today, Fubo said it is engaged in good-faith negotiations with NBCUniversal to renew a content agreement for its network. Fubo said NBCU’s demands, however, would harm its customers, and the streaming company has not agreed to the proposed terms.

The statement read, “NBCU is spinning off some of its cable networks to a new company called Versant on January 1, 2026. Despite the cost not being worth it for Fubo customers, Fubo offered to distribute Versant channels for one year. NBCU wants Fubo to sign a multi-year agreement – after that time the Versant channels will be owned by a separate company. NBCU wants Fubo customers to Subsidize the channels.”

The statement accuses NBCU of discriminating against Fubo and its customers by allowing Peacock to integrate YouTube TV and Amazon Prime Video into popular streaming services, while not granting Fubo the same rights. In a blog post yesterday, Fubo said the pricing and packaging terms offered by NBCUniversal are “well above what other distributors offer.”

“Fubo has chosen to drop NBCUniversal programming despite hundreds of other distributors offering similar agreed terms. Unfortunately, this is the same for Fubo – they have dropped several networks in recent years at the expense of their customers, who are increasingly losing content,” an NBCUniversal spokesperson told Engadget when asked to comment on Fubo’s allegations.

The company also pointed to ten major declines made by Fubo over the past five years, including Discovery Networks and AMC. A full list of channels that are still dark on fubo can be found here.
