Framework increases Desktop prices by up to $460 due to RAM crisis

Computer brand Framework has increased RAM prices for its desktop systems and mainframes in response to rising costs with its suppliers. Compared to when the desktop was announced, the 32GB and 64GB options each cost $40 more, but its 128GB version now costs an additional $460. Current pricing for the machines is $1,139 for 32GB, $1,639 for 64GB, or $2,459 for 128GB.

As the company began making changes to its pricing structure last month, it committed to being transparent with customers about changes to RAM prices. Framework also said it would lower prices again when the market calms down. Original prices for any existing pre-orders will be honored.

One of the big takeaways from CES 2026 was that RAM is going to be an expensive commodity this year. The rising costs are largely due to the reaction to artificial intelligence projects, such as the rush to build data centers. As a result, buyers taking a modular approach may want to upgrade less expensive components for better features without making increasingly heavy investments in memory.
