Founding Engineering Lead at AnswerThis

who we are

Trillions of dollars flow into global R&D every year, and a large portion of it goes to researchers manually reading papers, writing literature reviews, and assembling evidence packages. This is the work that decides whether a new drug or medical device will reach patients, and almost all of it is still done by hand.

Answer: It is creating operating systems for scientific knowledge inside enterprises. Our agents autonomously discover, synthesize, and draft evidence-based research. We have over 200K researchers from universities and Fortune 500 companies on our platform, and we’re going deeper into the life sciences, where workflows are the most manual and the stakes are the highest. We’re YC-backed, growing fast, and small on purpose.

what we are solving

  1. Existing research is still difficult to find. Semantic search has improved things, but finding the right evidence in fragmented sources remains a major unsolved problem.
  2. Research cannot update itself. Literature review is a snapshot. But the underlying data, internal test results, competitive intelligence, new publications, it all changes constantly. No one has a good answer for keeping the research up to date.
  3. Preparing a research draft is painful. Scientists spend months creating static, one-off documents that are never updated, impossible to find, and destroyed the day they are published. We are building systems that make research a living, blended asset rather than a disposable artifact.

Who are we looking for

You are a senior engineer who has built AI agent systems in production and led teams or projects in startups. You shipped under uncertainty, without specifications, on deadlines that made no sense on paper.

You will own the technical architecture and velocity of the product. This means prioritizing, implementing, and owning features from start to finish, from customer problem to deployed solution. You’ll work directly with enterprise customers, making tough calls on scope and sequencing with limited information, and measuring success by whether the product drives revenue.

You will also help us build our engineering team over time. You know what work 3 out of 10 engineers do on the break, and you want to design how that change happens.

This role is in-person in San Francisco. If you’ve only worked inside large engineering organizations with established processes, or if you optimize for technical beauty over business impact, this isn’t the right fit.

compensation

$170-240K+ base salary $1.5M+ ARR with meaningful equity in a YC-backed company.
