First Alert Forecast NC | Wintry mix expected Friday across Central North Carolina: Weather timeline

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — A wintry mix is ​​expected across parts of central North Carolina on Friday, with a chance of snow early in the day and rain by the afternoon. By evening the system may mix again and end.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for our northern counties until noon. The storm system is moving faster and more progressively than initially forecast, reducing the chances of wintry weather in those areas.

A mix of sleet and snow is still possible north of I-85 for a few hours this morning, with minor accumulations possible on elevated and grassy surfaces near the Virginia border.

For the Triangle, expect mainly freezing rain with some sleet at times.

No travel impacts are expected south of I-85. Rain will continue south and east along the I-95 corridor through the afternoon.

4 am: A mix of snow, rain and winter has started.

10 am: Transition into a mix of rain, snow and wet conditions.

12:00 PM: Snow or mud melts due to rain.

Evening: Prolonged showers possible.

Friday: First alert day. A wintry mix is ​​changing to cold rain, with highs in the 30s and lows in the 30s.

Saturday: It will be cloudy with scattered showers, with highs in the mid to upper 40s and lows in the upper 20s.

sunday: Partly cloudy, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s.
