twinless This is the most amazing movie I’ve seen in a long time. I enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster ride that director and writer James Sweeney takes us on.

A close friend of mine has a twin, and she loves participating in the Twins Day Festival. Held every year in Twinsburg, Ohio, the event is considered the largest gathering of twins in the world. The event includes games of cornhole, a “Double Take” parade, Twingo Bingo, and even a royal court. It’s the epitome of pure weirdness, which is why my friends love it. While my friend loves his twin, and they are happy to play bingo together, there is no mistaking them for the same person. They share an undeniable bond, but that doesn’t mean they’re exactly alike.
as soon as i saw an indie flick twinless, I thought of the Twins Day Festival. I wondered what it would be like to go from participating in celebrations to suddenly losing your other half? How big will that void be and how might you try to fill it? And a hypothetical thought: What if you’ve never had twins, but you’ve secretly always wanted one?
twinless Asks some of these questions. The film centers on Roman (Dylan O’Brien) who, after losing his twin Rocky, joins a support group for people who have lost their twins (interestingly, the Twins Day Festival organizes support groups for the same reason). Roman and Rocky were complete opposites of each other: Rocky was gay, vivacious, and incredibly smart, while Roman was straight, introverted, and missing some of the French fries from the Happy Meal.
At the group, Roman meets Dennis (James Sweeney, who also directed the film), who is also mourning his twin. They form an unlikely but close friendship, bonding over grocery store trips and their love the sims. Their initial friendship is sweet; Kind of like how some rom-coms first start. But then Swinney pulls the rug out from under the viewer – it turns out that not everything is as it seems. The last time I was so shocked by a revelation audition, A Japanese horror movie that will scare you with piano strings (thankfully, twinless It doesn’t turn into a bloodbath.)
it’s hard to discuss twinless Without supplying spoilers. As the film progresses, Sweeney maintains a Hitchcockian level of suspenseful pace, but injects just the right amount of pathos into the proceedings. Sometimes, twinless Heartbreaking, and not just because each main character loses a twin (although that grief is important). Supporting characters who were first slated for comic relief suddenly become major players in ways that make the plot transitions seamless. In the hands of a less capable director, twinless Lots of zigs and zags to be had, but Sweeney delicately guides us through what turns out to be a kind of mischievous movie.
Sweeney is a strong actor in his own right, but the real star is O’Brien. He pulls double duty as both Rocky and Roman, and when Rocky appeared on screen, I almost forgot that O’Brien was cast for that additional role. O’Brien portrays Rocky with tremendous confidence; he is like ilya heated rivalry, Who is definitely the far more charismatic and interesting part of the romantic duo (I still don’t understand why Ilya is attracted to Shen heated rivalry-Besides the fact that he’s attractive -but that’s for another article). Roman, on the other hand, is weird. He doesn’t have Rocky’s confidence and at first comes across as a stereotypical straight man. But the more we see Roman, the more we think he really is a sweet and sensitive person.
twinless This is the most amazing movie I’ve seen in a long time. I enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster ride Swinney took us on. Just when I thought I had the plot figured out, it cleverly turns the tables. It is often assumed that twins are identical, although most of them are not. So it’s only fitting that a brilliant film about twins and the pain of losing one is one of a kind.
