Finally, Ted and Karen Wheeler are in on the action.
Spoilers ahead for “Stranger Things” Season 5, Volume 1.
In the first four episodes of “Stranger Things” season 5, now streaming on Netflix, Ted and Karen Wheeler finally become aware of the supernatural threats around them.
“When I read the first script (for Season 5) I was like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe this is happening!’ And then it just kept going, going and going. “It was like an inverted roller coaster feeling while reading the script,” Chest exclusively told The Post.
“Stranger Things”, which is currently airing its fifth and final season, first premiered in 2016. The plot follows various friends and family members in Hawkins, Indiana, as they deal with supernatural demons in the ’80s.
Ted (Joe Crest) and Karen (Cara Buono), who are the parents of Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Holly (Nell Fisher), have been the epitome of normalcy.
An ordinary suburban couple, the Wheeler parents have been oblivious to the science-fiction events taking place in their town until now.
While reading the season 5 script, Chester had to quickly put it down to “call Cara (Buono) and then summarize”, he recalled.
In Season 5, a Demogorgon, a monster from the Upside Down, arrives at the Wheeler family, attacks Ted and Karen, and kidnaps their youngest child, Holly.
At the beginning of the exciting action sequence, Ted is ignoring his family as usual, hitting golf balls in the yard, oblivious to the danger. Karen is drinking and taking a bath. Poor Holly is fighting for her life as the monster has entered her room, while her parents are busy with their activities and are unaware of what is happening.
However, when the monster ransacks their house and comes into the kitchen, Ted and Karen can’t ignore it. Ultimately, they come into contact with the science-fiction monsters that Mike and Nancy have been dealing with for five seasons.
“It was really amazing to do that,” Chest said.
Despite their efforts to fight back, Holly is eventually kidnapped and taken to the Upside Down. Ted and Karen are badly injured but still alive. They are both in the hospital, while Mike and Nancy are frantic.
“Cara is one of the people I’ve become very close to over the years,” Chest said. “Man, I love working with him.”
The onscreen couple both have theater backgrounds. And now that they’ve completed their decade-long stint on “Stranger Things,” they hope they can share the stage together in the future.
“Stranger Things” season 5 will consist of 8 episodes, which will be released on Netflix in three parts on November 26, December 25 and December 31.
