Even Realities’ new smart glasses ditch cameras and speakers

Wearable technology company Even Realities has unveiled its latest pair of “human-centric” smart glasses, which it claims are designed not to interfere with your everyday life. The G2 Display smart glasses come without outward-facing cameras and external speakers, a move that Even Realities says “removes the worry of being recorded, overheard or distracted by unwanted sounds.”

Shipping smart glasses with just a microphone might seem like a bold move in an age where it seems like every piece of technology is connected to AI, but at least you’ll have to worry a little less about the ethical concerns raised by Meta’s camera-equipped glasses.

Even Reality’s new smart glasses still have four microphones with a display that combines a micro-LED projector, gradient waveguide, and digitally unfolded lenses. According to eOne Realities, it creates a 3D “floating spatial display” consisting of multiple layers designed to mimic how the human eye processes information. Quick hints or AI insights will appear on the front layer, while things like navigation or notes will appear on the back layer. Even Realities claims, “The result is an experience that feels less like looking at a screen and more like viewing an inherently augmented reality.”

You can navigate and scroll through content using the new R1 smart ring, which also offers some health-tracking features. The G2 Display Smart Glasses feature an AI-powered “Conversate” tool that provides prompts, clarifications, and follow-up questions during your conversation, as well as AI-generated summaries that appear later. The company has also added improvements to the translation, navigation, and teleprompter features available in the previous generation G1 smart glasses, which my colleague Victoria Song was intrigued by at CES.

Even Reality says its new smart glasses come with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, as well as more than two days of battery life on a single charge. The G2 Display Smart Glasses start at $599 and come in two styles in addition to a range of prescription lens options. The R1 Smart Ring is available separately for $249.
