Elon Musk Says ‘I Came to My Senses’ About Going to Epstein Island

Elon Musk has taken to his social media site X in recent days to try to explain why he exchanged so many emails with Jeffrey Epstein. Billionaire Tesla CEO says Epstein was the one stalking him. But the more Musk explains, and the more emails emerge from the vast cache of so-called Epstein files, the more bizarre his defense becomes.

Musk has denied any wrongdoing and has said he never visited Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean, known as Little St. James. And while there doesn’t seem to be any concrete evidence that Musk visited the island, it’s clear from the emails that Musk was keen to party with Epstein. Musk engaged in lengthy conversations in 2012, 2013, and 2014 about a trip to the island.

A series of emails from December 2012 that talk about “proportions” at Epstein’s parties are particularly worrying, if only because it’s not entirely clear what he means. Musk talked about bringing his then-wife Tallulah Riley, the British actress he was married to, From 2010-2012 and again from 2013-2016.

Epstein: You are welcome to stay or just come for a day, there is enough space, I will send Heli to pick you up

Musk: Have you planned any party? I’ve been working myself to the limit of sanity this year and so, once my kids go home after Christmas, I really want to check out the party scene in St. Barts or elsewhere and relax. The invitation is much appreciated, but a peaceful island experience is the opposite of what I’m looking for.

Epstein: Got it, I’ll see you on St. Barth, the proportions on my island might make Talihah uncomfortable

Musk: Proportions are no problem for Tallulah

In another email from November 2012, Musk asks “What day/night Desire Happen the wildest party But =our island?”

Since the new Epstein files were released on Jan. 30, totaling nearly 3.5 million pages, Musk has also been in an online back-and-forth with LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, each man accusing the other of being more implicated by the files.

“The big difference between you and me is that Reed, you went and I didn’t. In fact, you went multiple times. The first time was probably a mistake, but not the second time,” Musk wrote.

“And, as the emails show, I obviously didn’t really expect anything suspicious to happen, as I was bringing my wife at the time (Talulah). Yet, unlike you, I came to my senses and refused to let go. Epstein tried so many times to get me to visit his island that I eventually blocked him,” Musk continued in another tweet.

Obviously the phrase here is curious. What does it mean for Musk to come to his senses?

Does this mean that Musk always knew Epstein was engaged in child sex trafficking, wanted to party with him, and then decided against it? Or does it mean that Musk only found out during the process of emailing in 2012, 2013, and 2014 that Epstein was a predator, that Musk changed his mind about hanging out with him?

Many of the things Musk says can be confusing, mainly because he is not a reliable narrator of his actions. The billionaire previously wrote in September 2025 that he “refused” to visit Epstein’s Island, although the emails we now have do not suggest that at all. Publicly available emails show Musk and Epstein were talking about hanging out.

Even if you don’t count the possible trip to the island, there were other communications about other meetings between the men, including one from February 2013 that referenced a “facility” where Epstein says he would bring four “assistants.”

Again, Musk denied any wrongdoing. But it seems like every time he decides to join the controversy, things get a little more awkward. And it’s not just about Epstein. On Wednesday morning, Musk responded to a tweet from a user named @PubWanghaf.

User X wrote, “It breaks my heart to say this but to save this country we may have to do things that make women unhappy :(“

Musk responded with “true words” without elaborating.

What are you talking about, man?
