Dyson turned its skinny PencilVac into a lightweight wet floor cleaner

Dyson has announced an alternative version of its Skinny PencilVac that’s designed to clean up spills and stains on hard floors instead of sucking up dirt and debris. Like the PencilVac, which Dyson called “the world’s thinnest vacuum cleaner” when it was announced nine months ago, the new PencilVac squeezes a battery, motor and other electronics into its 1.5-inch-diameter handle. But it uses a dustpan for the water reservoir located in its large cleaning head that has a floor-scrubbing roller.

At 4.9 pounds without water or low-foam cleaning solution in its tank, the PencilWash is a little heavier than the four-pound PencilVac, but it’s also significantly cheaper. The PencilVac is priced at $600 for the version with four rotating conical brush heads, while the new PencilVac is priced at $349, which also includes a charging stand for the handle portion.

Designed specifically for cleaning hard floors like tile, laminate and sealed wood, the PencilWash features a pressurized hydration system to deliver fresh water that its high-density microfiber roller uses to clean surfaces and then collects dirty water afterward. The floor is not left completely dry, but kept dry enough that any remaining moisture evaporates quickly. And unlike Dyson’s larger floor scrubbers, the PencilWash’s pivoting handle can fold almost completely flat to reach under furniture.

Battery life is estimated to be over 30 minutes on a full charge, which matches the PencilVac at its lowest power setting. If there is not enough time to clean all the floors in your majestic property, the battery located at the end of the pencilwash handle can be replaced with a backup that can be purchased separately.
