If you thought you had a long day at work this Monday, maybe this story will make you feel a little better. Police faced a number of difficulties yesterday when responding to a report of a stolen car.
Why? Because the 34-year-old suspect managed to steal not only an ANWB vehicle but also the respondents’ own police car.
It all started with ANWB vehicle
According to NOS, the man, visiting from Breda, started his morning yesterday by taking photographs at a defense site near Gilze-Rijen Airport.
When the security personnel asked them to leave, they decided to leave their vehicle. According to Omroep Brabant, instead of using his own wheels, the man attempted to steal the car from a woman outside the property.
Although he failed to steal the woman’s car, he somehow managed to steal an ANWB vehicle instead. With his trusty new ride, he began driving in the direction of Dongen.
Then, it was just chaos
This is usually the part where the story ends. We’ll say that the police gave chase, the guy was caught, and everyone went about their business.

But alas, dear reader, that did not happen yesterday. Instead, the story goes like this:
- Police tried to chase the man in the stolen ANWB vehicle
- Due to the man’s dangerous driving (including driving on a cycle path), the police abandoned the pursuit
- The police started chasing an unknown vehicle
- They then tried to arrest the man at some traffic lights in Breda-Noord, but he ran into their car and fled.
- Officers then saw the man try (and fail) to steal another car near the NAC Stadium
- While officers attempted to help the owner of the vehicle and stop the man from stealing the car, he took the opportunity and stole the police car.
Now, we can only imagine how the officers were feeling at that moment, but it certainly put our tough Monday into perspective.
what happened next?
You would think that once he managed to steal his own police car he would have curbed his urge for auto theft, but believe it or not, that was not the case.

As the man fled towards Eton-Leur in a police car, he tried to steal another vehicle from someone who was still inside.
This time the person could not succeed. Officers were able to stop the man and he was taken into custody.

His purpose? He has not been released (probably because the police have no information).
