Raspberry Pi is increasing the price of many single-board computers in an effort to offset rising memory costs. The updates are being implemented immediately and affect the Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5, increasing prices by $5 to $25 depending on the model and amount of RAM. The 16GB memory variant of the Compute Module 5 is also being increased by $20, now starting at $140.
“The current pressure on memory prices due to competition from AI infrastructure roll-outs is painful but ultimately temporary,” Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton said in the announcement. “We are committed to reducing the cost of computing and look forward to further reductions once price increases subside.”
An affordable new 1GB variant of the Raspberry Pi’s flagship 5 model is also being offered for $45, which includes a quad-core 2.4GHz Arm Cortex-A76 processor, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a PCI Express port.
Raspberry Pi isn’t the only computing hardware provider feeling the pinch, CyberPowerPC and Maingear have also reported how the skyrocketing price of RAM is impacting their business, with prices either already increasing or expected to be in the future. The limited supply of RAM and high demand has led some stores to start selling it at market prices, just as GPU prices that were out of control earlier this year have finally started to come down.
