Drake Maye responds to Giants LB Brian Burns’ recent critique

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Mays was asked to respond to comments made by New York Giants two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Brian Burns while speaking to media members.

Burns acknowledged Mays’ talent at quarterback, but he also noted that the second-year signal-caller can be “very balanced” in the pocket, trying to make the perfect play every time. He indicated that this could eventually come back to bite Mays as he does not always have the knowledge of where pass rushers are coming from.

Mays admitted that he was not exactly sure what Burns’ comment meant, while also acknowledging that he was a great player.

“Not 100% (sure) what that actually means,” Mays said. “I try to keep my eyes on the field while feeling the pressure, I think that’s part of the playing situation. Just trying to make the right plays. I know he’s a great player, and he’s had a great year, so just try to get a feel for where he’s at. I know he’s played a lot of games.”

There will be additional pressure on Mayes for Monday’s game against the Giants as left tackle Will Campbell and possibly left guard Jared Wilson will both be out for the game.

This could create opportunities for Burns to come into the offensive backfield and wreak havoc. The young quarterback will have to keep his head on the mound at all times against a Giants team that isn’t as bad as their 2-10 record indicates.
