Mays admitted that he was not exactly sure what Burns’ comment meant, while also acknowledging that he was a great player.
“Not 100% (sure) what that actually means,” Mays said. “I try to keep my eyes on the field while feeling the pressure, I think that’s part of the playing situation. Just trying to make the right plays. I know he’s a great player, and he’s had a great year, so just try to get a feel for where he’s at. I know he’s played a lot of games.”
There will be additional pressure on Mayes for Monday’s game against the Giants as left tackle Will Campbell and possibly left guard Jared Wilson will both be out for the game.
This could create opportunities for Burns to come into the offensive backfield and wreak havoc. The young quarterback will have to keep his head on the mound at all times against a Giants team that isn’t as bad as their 2-10 record indicates.
