Under Moore, the $45.5 million deficit has shrunk to about $10.8 million. After being sworn in, Dr. Phipps spoke briefly. He said, "Thank you to our Board of Education for the privilege of being able to serve. I look forward to working with people within the system and certainly building relationships in our community, so I'm ready to get busy and get to work." Teachers have lost colleagues and now struggle to maintain the same quality of education with fewer resources. Some parents and teachers said they hope the new superintendent will promote community, accountability and fiscal responsibility. Community organizations including All In for Our Schools and the Forsyth County Association of Educators are also voicing what they want to see from Dr. Phipps. Latida Smith of All In for Our Schools sent WXII-12 a statement that read, "We are excited to partner with Dr. Phipps and build on the community's momentum as we shape a prosperous future for our schools." Jenny Easter, president of the Forsyth County Association of Educators, also sent. WXII-12 A statement. It reads, "The Forsyth County Association of Educators is cautiously optimistic and hopeful that Dr. Phipps' leadership brings stability, openness, and a real commitment to rebuilding Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. We have endured budget strains, staff cuts, and excessive workloads – and while public school employees bear the burden, students feel it most. Community response-
Many families and teachers said the school year has been difficult, dealing with all of the district’s financial challenges.
Students have lost teachers. Teachers have lost colleagues and now struggle to maintain the same quality of education with fewer resources.
Some parents and teachers said they hope the new superintendent will promote community, accountability and fiscal responsibility.
Community organizations including All In for Our Schools and the Forsyth County Association of Educators are also voicing what they want to see from Dr. Phipps.
