Double Fine announces delightful-looking multiplayer pottery game Kiln

Double Fine has been in trouble recently with its smaller projects. The popular indie game developer is following up on last year’s atmospheric adventure game keeper In a completely different direction with a new title. As its Double Fine founder Tim Schafer attempted to say five times as fast during today’s Xbox Developer Direct, Kiln is an “online multiplayer Pottery Party Brawler” that delivers exactly the kind of colorful, clever entertainment fans have come to expect from the studio.

Kiln It is a game that has two sides: creation and destruction. On the creation side, players get to design a ceramic vessel of their choice, anything from a pretty saucer to a giant pot. From the clip shown, this riff on character creation simulates many of the actual processes of throwing on the wheel. There are options to decorate your vessel with glazes and stickers for added personalization.

Once you’ve created your pottery, it’s time to destroy it. The game mode that Double Fine showed off during the Developer Direct is called Quench. In these capture-the-flag style matches, your teammates are trying to carry water in ships they design to the enemy’s kiln, where the goal is to extinguish its flames before the opponent can do the same to you. Different types of ships have different attacks to shatter enemy ceramics, so a strategic angle could be to create a smart team composition with a mix of defensive and offensive capabilities.

Kiln It sounds like a really fun time, and it’s due out in the spring of 2026. The game will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Steam, as well as through Xbox programs like Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
