This is what happened during a demonstration earlier this week Indiana Jones The epic stunt spectacular at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, when a large fake boulder was intended to recreate the iconic chase sequence raiders of the lost ark Freed from his track and turned towards the watching audience. Thankfully for them, a nearby Disney cast member stepped into the boulder’s path, deflecting its momentum to prevent it from being carried further into the crowd.
This is probably about as thematically appropriate a workplace injury as you could possibly get at a Disney park, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t pretty serious: The boulder was made of rubber, not rock, but it still weighed approx. 400 poundsWhich is a bad part of things being affected in some way. Footage of the accident, which went viral on social media during the New Year holidays, shows the Disney employee falling to the ground after being hit, and other employees rushing to tend to him after he failed to get up.
Thankfully, according to a statement from Disney, the employee was not seriously injured and is recovering. “We’re focused on supporting our cast who are recovering,” Disney said in a statement provided to the press (via BBC ), adding that the epic stunt spectacular show’s boulder sequence will be modified to hopefully avoid the possibility of a runaway boulder any time soon. “Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes its review of what happened.”
Meanwhile, no one loots precious statues that rest on seemingly normal platforms without making sure they have first gone through the necessary health and safety training. Or leave it to a local archeology professor who knows their stuff.
