While early trailers have glossed over much of the heavy violence, fans are hopeful that this new rating will allow Percy and company to indulge in action scenes with more intense fight choreography and more gore.
There are several villains already confirmed for Season 2, many of whom need to use the full extent of their power against the titular god.
Along with returning players like Adam Copeland’s Ares and Charlie Bushnell’s Luke Castellan, Percy and his friends must face Timothy Simmons’ Tantalus, a god-king cursed to eternal hunger, who has been appointed as Camp Half-Blood’s new activities director. Additionally, Alex Paunovic has joined the cast as Polyphemus, another son of Poseidon and Percy’s half-brother, who captures Grover and becomes a terrifying threat to the show’s main heroes.
Given who Percy and the rest of the cast will have to go up against, more violent action would have helped to more accurately recreate the story from Riordan’s pages. As fans wait for more information about the scenes that earn the show this rating, anticipation is rising to see the mayhem that unfolds at Camp Half-Blood.
