Basics, Disciplines and Description
With such a strong offensive opponent coming to town on Thursday, Campbell knows he will need a more consistent performance from his defense than he got against the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers over the past few weeks.
In the overtime win over New York in Week 12 and the loss to Green Bay on Thanksgiving, Detroit’s defense has allowed 633 passing yards with seven touchdowns and only one interception by safety Thomas Harper vs. the Giants.
Over the same two-game span, Detroit recorded only one sack and nine quarterback hits, six of which came from edge rusher Aiden Hutchinson.
“Got to be a little bit better. And basically, it’s a little bit like what I told the defense, we just have to get better in details and discipline, and really fundamentally,” Campbell said. “We have to be better.
“It can’t be that you’re going to win just by talent or things of that nature. It was really about pointing out all the things that have nothing to do with talent, which are really details, discipline and fundamentals. So, we just have to be a little more on point there. We can, everybody has to do their job. And that will help, it will go a long way.”
Detroit has suffered some big losses in the passing game over the past few weeks and will need to bounce back from Thursday to perform better defensively with their rushes and coverages against a very good Cowboys passing attack.
