Des Moines airport closed after Delta plane slides off runway

Des Moines International Airport has been closed after a Delta plane skidded off the runway Saturday night.

No passengers were injured, but officials said they were not sure when “normal operations will resume” at the airport.

Newsradio 1040 WHO reported that around 10 p.m. on November 29, Delta 5087 from Detroit was landing during a post-Thanksgiving winter storm when it slid off the Des Moines runway.

Airport spokeswoman Sarah Hudjer told the Des Moines Register that “A Delta Air Lines plane skidded off the runway while landing. All passengers are safe and are currently deboarding buses for transportation to the terminal. No injuries were reported.”

Hudjer said the plane is currently on the sidewalk and will be moved once it is formally released by the National Transportation Safety Board.

“At this time, that’s all the confirmed information I have,” he said.
