Tornado in Oklahoma: Damage left in Purcell; Multiple warnings issued during morning storms
Up in about ten minutes. Right now it is raining heavily and the next wave of storm is also coming. We also saw a lot of cloud to ground lightning. Let’s go back to that busy morning across the state. The storm was coming as people were making their way to school, we saw strong winds, rain, hail. It was a bad time because it was rush hour. Storm Command was one of the first to see the damage caused by the tornado. Yes, we have suffered a loss. We have what looks like tornado damage here in Purcell. This is not important. As I see the houses are destroyed, but there is fence damage and a bunch of trees that are downed everywhere in this yard. In this area. I’ve also got emergency vehicles kind of parking right here in front of us. So this is harm’s way right here at Purcell. Michael was the only news helicopter on the ground at Sky Five, as they come every weekday morning here in Oklahoma City. Chase Rutledge is getting a first-hand view of the damage at Purcell from the sky. It’s the more significant amount of damage here. I’m looking towards the eastern side of Purcell, don’t see much on that side, but again, we’re going to stick to that for our live shots here. But Damon, if we find anything else, we will definitely contact you and let you know. But it seems that this is what has caused the most damage. Chase was in the sky giving us the view from Sky Five. And we had teams on the ground as well. Coco has been at Meghan Mosley Purcell. Megan, I know you’ve talked to some people who have seen damage to their homes. I mean, I can’t even imagine how shaken up some of the people out there must be this morning. Yes, that is correct. We’re actually on the southwest side of Purcell in this newly developed neighborhood. I want to show you that it really is a trail of debris behind me in this newly developed area. But now I want to show you a house that has suffered a lot. You can see the garage on the ground there. The roof of this house has been broken into the fence, apparently so is the bottom. Now. The landlord didn’t want to talk with us on camera because apparently, as you said, they’re very scared. But we talked to the neighbors here who were helping them since morning. They told me they brought suitcases to help them, you know, collect things that they were able to salvage from this house. And we know they’ve really only been here four months. We also spoke to a baseball player from Purcell High School who said he actually had to take cover when this tornado touched down, and he was obviously very shaken up. But he told me, thankfully, there was no report of anyone being injured. And we also know that there are no other injuries reported here in Purcell. So this is today’s good news. But Cameroon, of course, we will continue to follow this story and bring you the latest reporting live. Meghan Mosley Coco 5 News moved into the house four months ago, and now a tornado has torn it apart. I certainly can’t imagine the people at Purcell in my thoughts this morning. Megan, thank you so much. This is a good time for you to download the Cocoa app as we continue to survey the area for more damage, you will get updates on it right here on Cocoa5. You can download the app to watch our news broadcasts. If you are out of the house, or if you
