Arlington, Texas – These two teams don’t really like each other. This often makes for some great football and entertainment, and just as they did not disappoint in their first matchup – the regular season opener at Lincoln Financial Field – the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles also put on a show at AT&T Stadium in Week 12.
Headlines? There was no shortage of them. After all, it was the first time the Eagles faced a Cowboys defense that featured All-Pro defensive tackle Quinn Williams and linebacker Logan Wilson, and it was only the second time facing DeMarvion Overshon, the latter having returned from injured reserve just the previous week; And who collected 11 tackles and two sacks a little more than a year ago.
For the Cowboys, it was about trying to keep the Eagles’ defensive line at bay, in which, unlike Week 1, Jalen Carter was present and responsible along with Jordan Davis, and newly-acquired edge rusher Jaylen Phillips worked on the outside and tried to ruin Dak Prescott’s day by keeping CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens from breaking shop.
They couldn’t do it and after falling behind 21-0 in the first half, Pickens teamed up with the Cowboys defense to do the unthinkable.
(Note: This list is unreserved.)
george pickens
Want a play, call George. Pickens was again in monster form (recording his second consecutive 100-yard game with a touchdown) and led an offense that again could find no way back due to penalties and other self-inflicted wounds. But when Prescott needed a big play most, Pickens was there to move the chains on multiple occasions and score the Cowboys’ first touchdown of the day – late in the second quarter – ultimately helping lift Prescott to the aforementioned franchise record. And his supernatural 43-yard catch over several defenders was hanging in The Louvre, Prescott then ran it in to give the Cowboys a 21-0 lead and tie the game… again giving a nice game for the Cowboys The eventual game-winning drive that took them deep into Eagles territory.
dak prescott
No, it wasn’t good and Prescott had to earn his place in the history books against a capable Eagles front that stopped him in the end zone in the first half. But, ultimately, the All-Pro took the throne from Tony Romo as the Cowboys’ all-time leader in passing yards, a franchise mark once held by Troy Aikman, and that alone is enough to get him on this list for Week 12, but he didn’t quite get there. The rushing touchdown to tie the game and the deep ball on the free play to CeeDee Lamb were all courage, all glory.
javonte williams
The only mistake Williams made was allowing a sack on Prescott, but other than that, he was a force that kept the Cowboys offense going by tearing up chunks of yardage when he wasn’t doing the heavy lifting in both short yardage and his crucial red zone block late in the third quarter gave Prescott enough time to find Brevin Spann-Ford for a touchdown, making it a one-possession game.
jake ferguson + cd lamb
It was mostly a quiet game for Ferguson, until it wasn’t. His 12-yard reception on the drive that led to Pickens’ touchdown was a thing of beauty, considering he caught it before it even spun and outran multiple defenders for a 12-yard gain, and that’s the kind of bully ball the Cowboys love to see. For Lamb, most of the first three quarters were forgettable due to a barrage of drops, but a deep hit to the right from Prescott.
Kavonte Turpin + Brevin Spann-Ford
Speaking of redemption, Turpin’s fumble in the first half was costly, to say the least, but on 1st and 10 from the Eagles 24-yard line with a little more than two minutes left in the second quarter, and with Philadelphia set to get the ball after halftime, Turpin took a toss up the middle and gained 48-yards. This helped narrow the lead to two points, setting up Jake Ferguson’s bully ball reception and Pickens’ touchdown; And Spann-Ford turned it into a one-possession game as the third quarter ended — the second-year tight end showing he can impact games, too.
defensive line
A poor performance from the defensive line in the first half gave way to a dreadful performance in the second half as they helped stifle the Eagles’ attack.
Hurts often found themselves under even greater pressure in the third quarter and beyond, and largely due to the efforts of Dante Fowler, Jadeveon Clowney, Quinnen Williams, Osa Odigizuwa and Donovan Ejiruaku – as well as help from others, such as a forced fumble by Sam Williams with the Eagles threatening to take the lead with less than eight minutes to play in regulation (Kenneth Murray Retrieved by). Credit to the entire unit for coming back in a big way despite a 21-0 deficit and never giving up, as shown by Odighizuwa with a 13-yard sack on Hurts on third-and-2 after the two-minute warning gave the ball back into Prescott’s hands in a tie game.
Marquise Bell + Elijah Clarke + Trent Sieg
Last week, Bell had an interception after a tip drill by Murray. This time, he was showcasing his strength when he flat-out fired a pass to Clark, which was recovered by long snapper Trent Sieg, who took off his entire back to reach the ball. Aggression couldn’t be converted into points, but Bell, Clark and Sieg did their part and then some.
brandon aubrey
A rare miss by Oubre early in the game was well met by a swing of the boot by Oubre, who won the game and secured a franchise-tying 21-point comeback win, moving them to 5–5–1 on the season, a win over the defending champions to split the 2025 series and their first two-game win streak of the year. When Aubrey needed butter, she spread it thickly.
