The Dallas Cowboys overcame a 21-0 deficit on Sunday to beat the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in an inspiring comeback victory on a Brandon Oubre field goal in the final seconds. That win likely saved their season, but they still have a lot of work to do if they want to have even a chance of making the playoffs.
With a 5-5-1 record, they face a short rest period before hosting Patrick Mahomes and the three-time defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving. Cornerback Trevon Diggs has missed each of his last five games due to a knee injury and concussion suffered during an incident at home, and he likely won’t be on the field against Kansas City.
Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News wrote, “Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs may be eligible to be activated from injured reserve, but it likely won’t be before Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.”
“The Cowboys have not yet opened their practice window because he was placed on injured reserve after suffering a concussion in an accident at his home, where details were scarce. Diggs has also been dealing with a knee injury, having had season-ending surgery last year.”

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said that although Diggs has improved, getting a full three days of rest and preparation will be a challenge as far as getting the corner ready to play.
“He’s doing better,” Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said of Diggs on Monday. “One problem this week is that it’s a short week. Again, we’ll see how everyone does, but short weeks are a little tougher. He’s doing everything he can as best he can, and he has a really good look on his face.”

Diggs, 27, was a force in Dallas’ secondary not long ago. Most recently in 2022, he posted 14 passes defended and three interceptions while being named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl.
But injuries have probably taken away a large part of his natural ability from him. He had a solid 2024, but in six games this year, he doesn’t have a single pass breakup.

According to Spotrac.com, the Dawgs have three additional years left on their contract and will be under their salary cap hit of $23.4 million in 2027 and $21 million the following year. There have been some rumors that perhaps the Cowboys would consider parting ways with him after this season due to his health issues, and he was mentioned in trade rumors before the deadline earlier this month.
