Chukwueze relishes first EPL Man of The Match award

fulham Winger Samuel Chukwueze expressed a bit of surprise and excitement after winning his first English Premier League man of the match award in the 2-1 win at Tottenham on Saturday, Punch Sports Extra reports.

Chukwueze played a key role in their victory, setting up Kenny Tete for the opening goal in the fourth minute – his second consecutive assist and this assist in the league this season.

He was named Man of the Match after the game, earning the accolade for the second consecutive time in the league after being named the club’s Legend of the Match during the 1–0 win over Sunderland the previous week.

He came off the bench to provide the assist for Fulham’s only goal against Sunderland last week, giving him his first start under Marco Silva.

Speaking after the game, Samuel Chukwueze explained how he has overcome his recent struggles.

“I didn’t expect it today. But I was focused on working hard,” Chukwueze told Sky Sports.

“The last months have been a bit tough, but I kept my head down and kept working and today I took advantage of the opportunity.

“They make me work really hard in training and keep me motivated. We’re very proud of today’s result. We’ve worked for it on the training pitch.

“The players gave everything on the field. We had to defend with all we had. This win is very, very important.”

Before Saturday, he had played only five EPL games – all as a substitute.

Chukwueze is on loan from AC Milan, and Fulham have the option to buy for around €25m, with the 26-year-old looking to impress Silva and avoid another move in the summer.

The Cottagers next face Manchester City on Tuesday.
