If Celtic beat Dundee and Hearts beat Kilmarnock on Wednesday, Nancy could take his new club to the top of the Premiership with a win in their first match.
“It’s good for him (against Hearts), a good introduction,” O’Neill said. “Of course it will be a difficult game and naturally I wish him well. At least he’s getting a team with a bit of confidence.”
This confidence stems from O’Neill’s success on the field over the past five weeks, when he scored only once in a 3–1 defeat away at Midtjylland in the Europa League.
However, the former Republic of Ireland manager and his players managed to bounce back and claim their first win in Europe since 2021 as they beat Feyenoord 3-1 last week.
Celtic are 21st in the 36-team table and have three matches left to play against Roma, Bologna and Utrecht.
“We lost to Midtjylland,” O’Neill said. “That was a tough game – a couple of weeks ago they beat Nottingham Forest, so it was tough. It was great to go to Feyenoord and win away from home.
“We have given ourselves a chance, there are three games left to qualify, but that (the Feyenoord game) was a restoration of confidence.”
