Kelvin Beachum of the Arizona Cardinals talked about how it is a blessing to volunteer in the community, especially during the holidays.
- Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. returned to practice after missing two games due to an appendectomy.
- Receiver Michael Wilson is expected to maintain a key role after a two-game layoff with 25 catches for 303 yards.
Jacoby Brissett is frozen out at quarterback for the time being, Kyler Murray is still working through his rehab, but there is uncertainty at both running back and wide receiver.
Here are the latest updates:
Marvin Harrison Jr. returns to practice
On Wednesday, November 26, Harrison returned to practice in the Cardinals’ first session of the week. Harrison had not practiced since undergoing an appendectomy on November 10, which also caused him to miss the last two games.
Harrison did not wear the yellow non-contact jersey and played all drills during the portion of practice open to reporters.
“When he’s physically and mentally healthy to play, he’ll play,” head coach Jonathan Gannon said earlier in the week.
Michael Wilson’s role
Even if Harrison returns for the Cardinals’ Week 13 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Michael Wilson is set to retain a larger role than before Harrison’s injury.
With Harrison out, Wilson has stepped into the top wide receiver role – and has dominated. In those two games, he has had 25 catches for 303 yards, which is the best two-game total for any wide receiver in the NFL this season.
On Monday, November 24, Gannon was asked if the Cardinals could make changes to their offense to incorporate Wilson more, even with Harrison returning.
“Yes,” Gannon said. “Throw it on the guys who are making plays for you. Absolutely.”
Offensive coordinator Drew Petzing expanded on what that could look like.
“Move him around in the formation, continue to put him up in the progression,” Petzing said. “Whether it’s the run game or the pass game, when you perform well in this league, we’ll give you more opportunities to continue to do that. I think that’s our job as coaches.”
trey benson injury latest
The Cardinals began Trey Benson’s three-week practice window a week earlier, on November 19. But after entering three limited seasons, he was not yet ready to go last week against the Jaguars, with Gannon saying only that Benson looked “fine” in his return to the practice field.
It appears that this trend will continue on November 26 as well.
Benson participated in all drills during the 15-minute portion of practice open to reporters but did not appear completely comfortable doing so. After practice, he repeatedly moved his leg and reached for his injured knee, seemingly attempting to relieve the discomfort.
Gannon did not provide any updates on Benson in his press conference before practice. Gannon will next meet with reporters on Friday, November 28, which will be his final session before the Week 13 game.
If Benson is not able to go, Bam Knight and Michael Carter will once again lead the backfield, as Imari Demercado (ankle) missed practice again on November 26.
After forcing the Cardinals to throw 50 times against the Jaguars, Carter – who is more of a pass-catching back – outrebounded Knight 47 to 37. However, Knight led the backfield with 10 carries to Carter’s five.
