‘Bundle up and stay warm’: Black Friday brings chill and wind gusts to DC region

The arrival of cooler winds has made the shopping day cooler for people heading to Black Friday in the DC area.

Black Friday goers are facing windy and cold shopping conditions – thanks to the arrival of cold air in the DC area.

“Winds will be the main story today,” 7News First Alert meteorologist Mark Pena said. “They will be moving out to the west at gusts up to 35 mph, which means our forecast will feel just as cold with highs in the upper 20s to lower 30s with wind chills in the mid 40s.”

Don’t be fooled when you look out the window. The sunshine has returned but that doesn’t mean summer is coming with it.

“If you’re out doing a little shopping, maybe a little exercise after Thanksgiving, remember to bundle up and stay warm,” Pena said.

He said that although the weather will be dry and no rain is expected, the temperature outside will feel quite cold due to the wind.

“Tonight we will have clear skies and extremely cold temperatures,” Pena said.

He said the minimum temperature will be above 30 degrees Celsius in the forecast, but winds will make it feel as cold as the upper 10 degrees on Friday night.

The D.C. area is expected to get some relief from wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph Saturday and Sunday.
