Bring the Existential Horror of Capitalism to Your Shelf With This ‘Squid Game’ Figure

Your Lee Jung-jae action figure collection – so far probably only includes Hasbro’s take on Jedi Master Soul retainer—Very serious, death-fighting emotions are about to get another chance. See the new look of Hot Toys squid game The picture shows Lee’s hollow-eyed Seong Gi-hun, also known as Player 456. He comes with several accessories from seasons one and two of the hit Netflix series, but is missing the main takeaway from season three: the newborn baby who comes into his care midway through the competition.

However, if you choose to add this figure to your toy shelf you can easily dress up your baby component. Gi-Hun comes with: A voting machine powered by USB so you can decide whether to quit or continue playing; a piggy bank; square symbol mask; and “a six-legged pentathlon game set consisting of a pair of ankle cuffs, a pair of dadakji, a pair of bisokchigi, a set of gonggi stones, a shuttlecock, and a spinning top.” You also get a special base that looks like a staircase, so you can picture Player 456 moving towards his destruction.

The greatest marvel of the Hot Toys image is how Gi-hun’s expression conveys despair and shock, no matter what pose you choose for him. It’s terrifying but also accurate, especially as the character – who is I am trying To do the right thing and yet face death and betrayal at every turn – becoming increasingly frustrating as the series progresses.

Here’s a close-up of that expression:

And ballot boxes, because it deserves some serious attention to detail; As you can see in the images above, Gi-hun’s tracksuit proudly displays a “Let’s End This Now” X patch declaring his preference:
