Born Again’ Showrunner Wishes the Show Wasn’t So Timely

The first two seasons of Daredevil: Born Again Focuses on Matt’s ongoing relationship with the Kingpin, who now runs New York. What at first seems like a legitimate game to go straight turns out to be a front: not only has FIsk assembled an anti-vigilante task force to take down the costumed heroes, he’s also trying to turn Red Hook into his own city-state for profit.

Even before the season finale featured power outages, riots in the streets, and police claiming that the unarmed kid they shot was a vigilante, it wasn’t hard to see the parallels between the MCU’s New York and the then-current situation in the United States. It doesn’t seem like this will change with season two, and showrunner Dario Scardapane has had no problem admitting that what’s going on in the real world doesn’t matter to him or others working on the show.

“We shot some scenes [last season] It may be off the news, and it’s freaking us all out,” he told SFX Magazine. Citing Stan Lee’s old adage about his comics reflecting the real world, Scardapane lauded the “renewed political energy”. born again, But he believes too much of it may be taking away from the ideals and almost-mythical inclinations of the superhero genre. And based on what he’s saying, this season will end with Fisk off the board so season three can go in another direction.

“It was fun to play in the arena of politics, but I personally like something more street level,” Scardapane concluded. “What we’re doing next, as the Mayor Fisk race reaches its inevitable conclusion, feels like a return to Frank Miller-era comics.” We’ll see how it looks later Daredevil: Born Again Returns with season two on March 24.
