In the hit Taylor Sheridan series, the 70-year-old actor plays Tommy Norris, an oil man who has reconciled with his firecracker ex-wife, Angela (Larter). The pair’s dynamics are fiery and unpredictable – for example, how Angela destroys their living room by throwing plates of pasta everywhere after Tommy makes a comment about her menstruation.
“Every time we do a scene together, it’s so much fun,” Thornton tells People.
The couple’s daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), who cares for her mother, adds to the chaos.
“It’s a full-time job,” says Thornton. “It’s been amazing. I mean, those girls, we love them — in real life and as characters.”
She says her scenes with Larter, 49, are particularly fascinating.
“I’m reminded of my past from time to time, from different times in my life,” says Thornton, who has been married six times. “Oh yes.”

The actor says that when he and Larter met before shooting Season 1, they “had a natural rapport”: “Automatically, Ali and I were just passionate friends.”

He feels similarly connected to Randolph, 28. “I mean, automatically, I was protective of Michelle,” he says.
landman That’s rare in the business, Thornton says, because it’s a project “where you don’t have days where you don’t want to go to work. We love going to work on this show, and we love all the cast.”
He added, “It’s an amazing crew – the best crew I’ve ever worked with – and we have Taylor’s great words, Taylor’s great story.” “I mean, honestly, I feel blessed every day because of this show. There’s not a day that goes by that I say, ‘Wow, I wish I could get out of here.’ This never happens. It’s a wonderful place to live.”

Thornton is as complimentary about his scene partner, Larter, as he is about working with him.
“I think I get to work with one of the best actors working in our business, and he brings out the best in me,” he told People. “In our world, when we’re working together, there’s never an inauthentic beat, and that’s incredible. I love that so much.”
