The recording of testimony given under oath to the House of Representatives Oversight Committee ran over two days last week.
What did Clinton say to the lawmakers?
During testimony, Bill Clinton told the committee that he parted ways with Epstein years before the convicted sex offender entered a guilty plea in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from an underage girl.
Bill Clinton told the committee that he first met Epstein when he boarded the financier’s private jet for the Clinton family’s humanitarian work in 2002, but their relationship broke down a year later.
“When I was around him I didn’t see anything that would make me realize he was trafficking women,” he told the committee.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton told the committee that she did not even remember meeting Epstein.
Clinton’s testimony comes as calls for accountability over the Epstein files gain momentum. However, he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Clinton says Trump told her about ‘some great times’ with Epstein
Clinton also recalled the conversation she had with Donald Trump after becoming the Republican President. Clinton told lawmakers that Trump had told her he had “some good times” with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“Somehow he (Donald Trump) knew that I flew on Jeffrey Epstein’s plane,” Clinton told the committee. “He said, ‘You know, we’ve had some good times together over the years, but we all drifted apart because of a real estate deal.’
He said Trump never “said anything to me that would suggest he was involved in any impropriety with respect to Epstein.”
Both Clinton and Trump acknowledged having affairs with Epstein, but before the financier pleaded guilty in 2008, both have repeatedly said they had seen no evidence of sex trafficking.
